SPECIAL CENSUS UPDATE 2021

Dear parents and carers I hope you’re all doing OK with Lock-down 3. It certainly feels different to the last two and will hopefully be the last… let’s hope at any rate. I haven’t written for a few weeks as I need to make sure everyone reads this one carefully. 31st January is the annual census of UK Scouts. This is where we re-register the Scout Group as an official member Group of UK Scouts and record the number of individual members we have, which in turn determines the insurance requirements, etc. From this, we are then billed an annual membership fee per member, which is around £45 each by UK Scouts and Kent County Scouts (Folkestone & Hythe District Scouts […]

Weekly update #31

Dear parents and carers A very happy new year to you all and I hope you had the best Christmas you could under the circumstances. The leaders met last Saturday, virtually of course, to discuss our plans for the next term and based on the fact we are still, at the time of writing, in tier 4 (although what Mr Johnson is about to say probably won’t change the plans for us anyway) we are unable to return to face to face Scouting. As such, leaders have planned an exciting term of activities based around working towards some of the usual Scouting badges in each section as well as working towards some special limited edition badges produced by Kent Scouts. Weekly update #30

Dear parents and carers Another week passes and I hope if your young person is a Beaver or a Cub they were excited as my Beaver Scout when they saw their little parcel of things on the door mat today (or maybe last Saturday). If we had your address as of last Wednesday evening, the packs were sent out, so I hope you’ve either got it or it will arrive tomorrow morning! If you don’t get one, please please check your address on Online Scout Manager and update it – the system tells me as soon as you have and records all changes, so I’ll know it’s been updated and be able to get one out to asap. It occurred […]

Weekly update #29

Dear parents and carers I hope week 2 of this lockdown finds you all well? Scouts this week has continued with all sections online and many young people enjoying meeting up with their new sections and leaders. We saw some great Remembrance tributes from all sections, thank you for sharing. These dreaded resource packs we’re trying to send out to members have become the bane of my life! They’re all ready to go, but as this is the first time we’ve really done a mass mail out to our members, we’ve realised that our address records for everyone are a mess! We’re missing so many addresses, or addresses are in different boxes meaning that we can’t really send out the […]

Weekly update #28

Dear parents and carers   So, our first week back to virtual Scouting has been and gone and seems to have been a success. As I thought, nationally The Scouts instructed the closing of all Groups for face to face Scouting from last Thursday so I am pleased we were prepared and managed to provide a good programme for all our sections. Thank you so much for the messages of support sent to the team and to me – they really help us and stop some of the worry about whether we are doing the right thing or not. This week the online adventures continue. Keep a look out for the Zoom details sent out as Events by email. I […]

Remembrance 2020

Remembrance 2020 2020 Service Usually, we’d be together on Remembrance Sunday sharing in the Folkestone Service. As we can’t do that this year, take a look at this ‘Scouts Own’ about Remembrance made by 50th Wakefield (North Ossett.) Scout Group. Our thanks to them for this wonderful resource. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DaZw-FLbexk&feature=youtu.be&fbclid=IwAR29d8carChTyqefZbskr9nV4v9ZDcJ5LAc4B8nJUTOGlZnTlmhA85i2VHo
