Remembrance 2018

This year’s Remembrance Day parade and service will be on Sunday 11th November. Meet at the Leas Cliff Hall at 10.30am in full and smart uniform. Dress warmly. This is the one single event that we expect all members to turn out to. Please note the finishing point is left of the Town Hall  (the cinema) in Guildhall Street, towards the main road (depending on where we are in the parade order!) – parents are warmly invited to remain with us for the duration of the event – please stand with the general public, not with us in the parade.   Information from the District Clothing If the weather is wet then overcoats should be worn.  If the weather is dry then it is recommended that layers […]

Continuing our weekly series on getting the most out of My.SCOUT to make Scouting even easier. today: Data Protection Keeping data safe is very important to us. Part of our legal obligations are keeping data up to date as well. My.SCOUT helps us with this greatly by allowing parents and carers to log in to the system at any time and update contact details – including emergency contact details (more on that in a minute) – and permissions. What can you do? Regularly log in and check the personal details section of My.SCOUT. You’ll need to enter your young person’s date of birth just to make sure it’s you. If it doesn’t work, send us an email as the date […]

Poppy Appeal Collections 2018

We will be collecting money for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal in Folkestone town centre on Saturday 10th November. The Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers are all invited to come along to sell poppies and help raise as much money as possible for this fantastic cause! As you may know Remembrance Sunday this year will be on the 11th which means that the 10th is the last day of the appeal and is set to be a busy one. That means that it would be great to have as many young people as possible giving up some of their time. All we are asking for is an hour from the Beavers and Cubs, and an hour and a half […]

Kent Scouts Big Cardboard Sleep Out

On 12th October, over 3,000 Cubs, Scouts and Explorers will raise funds for Porchlight by getting sponsored to spend a night outside in cardboard boxes.  The young people taking part hope to raise a significant amount for Porchlight’s work helping rough sleepers and vulnerable people across the county. ‘Knot’ bad! We’re joining in (by invitation only, please see My.SCOUT ) with a night at the hall, sleeping outside on the decking in cardboard boxes (and a sleeping bag!). There is no charge for this event, however, it is a fundraising event, so we’re asking everyone that comes along to get a few sponsors to help out. Download a copy of the sponsorship form from here. All participants will need to bring along their […]

Missing the adventure?

Are you missing out on the great adventure the young people have been having? You may have noticed we’ve stopped posting the fab pictures of all the goings on, from the Cub and Scout camps in May, district adventure days, some great trips and events away from the hall and the start back this academic year – including some very convincing pirates! It’s not because we’ve forgotten our cameras, but because of the dreaded GDPR – the trustees interpretation of the regulations are that we need explicit consent to use and post photographs. Head over to your My.SCOUT page and update your consent to get the great pics back. Some useful documents to do with data protection, explaining what we […]
